Censorship and the Student Press

While the student press at Oshkosh published information on abortion, contraception, and sexuality seemingly without censure, other campus newspapers in the Wisconsin system faced more constrictions. At River Falls, during the fall semester of 1970, the Student Voice printed advertisements for a mail-order condom company and two abortion referral services in New York and California (displayed on the left). Disturbed by the ads, River Falls President George R. Field threatened to fire Student Voice editor Judith Heise or suspend funds for the newspaper.
